Dates for 2013 Alumni Convention

It’s already been announced that this year’s Alumni Convention will be in the Music City, but we now have dates set as well: join us this June 14-16 as Phi Sigma Pi heads to Nashville, TN for the 9th Annual Alumni Convention.

2013 Alumni Convention logo

If you’ve never been to an Alumni Convention before, I really can’t recommend it enough. It’s one of the best ways to have fun and get involved with the fraternity as an alumni–you get to explore a new city, meet lots of great people, and reconnect with Brothers you haven’t seen in a while!

Click here to join the Facebook event, or check out National’s official page for the whole itinerary. And be sure you register by May 1 to get a spot!

(Protip: NAA members get $10 off their registration fee!)

Happy New Year, Brothers!

It’s a new calendar year, and that means that it’s time to renew your membership in the National Alumni Association for the upcoming year with a contribution to the Phi Sigma Pi Foundation! Joining costs as little as $31 for the year.

Wondering what your membership donation actually does? Among other things, it helps enable Phi Sigma Pi to:

  • Maintain our alumni database
  • Sponsor national events like Alumni Convention and National Convention
  • Assist Collegiate Chapters in their local alumni efforts
  • Provide support to existing local Alumni Organizations and the formation of new ones

There are lots of benefits to joining! These include:

  • You’re eligible to apply for the Rolla F. Wood Graduate Scholarship
  • You can attend professional networking receptions
  • You’re able to participate in DVAC events (it’s strongly encouraged our members join the NAA, but it is not required except for voting)
  • Bi-annual copies of The Purple & Gold/The Lampadion magazine
  • Monthly Alumni E-Newsletters
  • Discounts on your auto insurance rates through Geico
  • Discounts for national Phi Sigma Pi events

Your donation is good for the entire calendar year, and you can even set it up to deduct automatically on a yearly basis so it’s completely hassle-free. Renew your membership today! www.phisigmapifoundation.org/donate

Videos from our TFA Service Event are up!

Hi everyone! Back in June during our awesome Philly Beer Week ICR Weekend, we had a service event. We recorded footage of several Brothers answering commonly asked questions from Teach For America classrooms in different age groups. Then, I edited all the footage together. Well, I’ve finally finished putting together all the footage, and I’m proud to present two awesome videos!

The first one is geared towards questions asked by kindergartners through second graders:

And the second one is geared towards questions asked by fifth through eighth graders:

At the behest of a few of our Brothers, I also cut together a blooper reel. I had entirely too much footage to use for this, but I think it’s pretty entertaining. 😉

Thanks again to all the Brothers who came out and participated in this event, and I’m glad we were able to come together to help a great cause!

NAA Noms, Amendments, Council, ABP, etc

Hey everyone, lots of new info!

  • Gamma Xi is requesting Brothers and Alumni to be interviewed by their new Initiate class. If you’d like to participate, drop me a line.
  • Nominations for NAA Delegates are currently open, and closing next Wed, May 16th. You can nominate you or someone else here.
  • The 2012 proposed amendments are now online for everyone to read and look over. They’re available here. (Because the document contains proposed amendments to The Phi Sigma Pi Ceremonies it is password protected. The password is the fraternal word. Having trouble with recalling the word? Contact the National Office.)
  • Candidates for 2012 National Council are up! You can read all about them here.
  • Our Form 530 is due June 1st, so please register for the NAA if you haven’t already. Please be sure to list DVAC as your affiliate Chapter! You can register here.
  • Alternative Break Project is starting this weekend through May 20th. We had planned on visiting the ABP group in Newark, so can we try and firm up those plans? I know we had also mentioned maybe bringing them lunch. Shout out how we’d like to go about this.
  • Our “Day at the Races” event is coming up next weekend on May 19th from 2-7pm. We’ll be going to Delaware Park and Casino to watch the Preakness. Check out the Facebook event for more details: here.
  • Our big ICR event weekend for Philly Beer Week is June 1-3. If you haven’t RSVP’ed to the Facebook event yet, please do, so I can get an accurate headcount for National. The event is here.
  • Alumni Convention is coming up on June 15 in Chicago. Registration has been extended until May 15th, so you still have a couple of days to sign up.

Because of all that’s going on right now, especially the amendments, Council candidates, and Form 530, I’d like to have a meeting this month. Things seem to go well if we eat somewhere and then do something afterward, so perhaps we can do lunch and then go to Dino Don’s Dinosaurium, or Pottsgrove Manor. Does Sunday, May 20th work for everyone? If not, what about the weekend of May 26th and 27th? Let me know!
